1. What type of batteries does the Rodent Terminator use?
At a minimum, the unit requires (4) D alkaline batteries; standard heavy-duty or rechargeable batteries are not suitable for use.

2. How long will the batteries last?
The Rodent Terminator will remain on standby for at least 60 days and/or make approximately 20+ kills with a new set of quality alkaline batteries.

3. Is the Rodent Terminator easy to use?
Yes, the Rodent Terminator is simple to use. Be sure to remove any other food source from the area and then place the trap along a wall in an area where rodents travel. Bait the unit by placing a little in front with the bulk of the bait in the bait cup. The Rodent Terminator senses the rodent’s presence inside the device and delivers a high-voltage electric shock to quickly and humanely kill the mouse, rat or other rodent.

4. What type of bait should I use?
Baits help lure the rodent into the Rodent Terminator. Ordinary dry pet food is an effective lure and is a good bait to begin with. If you want to try something different you can also use dry nuts, trail mix, oatmeal cookie morsels, candy corn, peanut butter and/or chocolate, RITZ Bits Crackers with peanut butter, sweet feed, chicken scratch, and Goldfish® crackers in the bait cup. Peanut butter is also a good bait, especially if the rodent is taking the bait quickly and not tripping the unit.

Don’t be afraid to experiment. Just like people, rodents can have different tastes and preferences. If the rodents turn their noses up at one lure, try something else; observe what they’ve been attracted to in your home or yard and try that.

5. How can I tell if the Rodent Terminator is working?
The indicator light on each side of the Rodent Terminator will show green when the unit is baited and reassembled. Note that the green lights will turn off after approximately 5 seconds. If the indicator lights are solid red, the kill plate has some debris on it. Remove the top part of the trap and clean the kill plate. If both lights are blinking red, the batteries are low and should be replaced.

6. How can I tell if I caught a rodent?
The indicator light on each side of the Rodent Terminator will blink green approximately every 10 seconds. The unit will continue to kill even with a rodent inside; however, the lights will continue to blink until the trap has been disassembled and reset.

The wireless Rodent Terminator Trap Monitor can be purchased separately and is perfect for areas such as the attic, barn or basement where checking the trap daily is inconvenient. The monitor has a 100’L range and will let you know if there is a low battery, if service is necessary or if you have a successful kill.

7. The lights are blinking but there's no rodent inside. What happened?
If the lights are flashing green, the rodent was able to get out of the trap without tripping the trap. Consider baiting the trap with peanut butter in order to keep the rodent in the trap for a longer period of time.

8. How do I clean the Rodent Terminator?
The manufacturer suggests only cleaning the trap if it is especially dirty or if the red lights are illuminated. To clean the unit:

  1. Disassemble the unit by pushing the top and bottom of the trap in different directions. The unit’s electronics will only activate when the lid and base are fully engaged and locked together.
  2. Use a disposable pan large enough in width and length to accommodate the Rodent Terminator.
  3. Fill the pan with approximately 1” of warm/hot water, a teaspoon of vinegar and an ample amount of dish detergent. Set the bottom part of the Rodent Terminator in the pan and let it soak for about 1 hour to loosen debris.
  4. Using a soft-bristle toothbrush, gently brush the bottom of the Rodent Terminator.
  5. To rinse, carefully allow a gentle stream of fresh water to flow over the cleansed bottom surface of the trap. Do not spray the device or allow moisture to intrude into the electronics that are housed at the top of the unit because this may cause the electronics to short out and impair the trap’s performance.
After cleaning and rinsing the Rodent Terminator thoroughly, allow it to air dry fully (approximately 8 hours) before reassembling and putting the unit back in service. You may also use a cool hairdryer to speed up drying.

9. Can the Rodent Terminator be used outdoors?
The Rodent Terminator is weatherproof and able to be used anywhere, inside or out.

10. How do I empty the trap?
Pick up the Rodent Terminator and dispose of the rodent by simply tipping the trap over an appropriate waste receptacle. If necessary, separate the top and bottom of the Rodent Terminator to remove the dead rodent or any debris that has accumulated in the trap.

11. Why is the Rodent Terminator a good choice over other rodent control products?
The Rodent Terminator is a poison-free rodent-control product, so there are no deadly poisons around your home, business or outdoor environment. The trap kills humanely (with an instant, heart-stopping electric shock), and disposal is as simple as dropping the rodent into the trash.

12. Is it safe for use around children and pets?
The Rodent Terminator is safe for use around children; however, children should be reminded that it is not a toy. It is safe for use around cats and dogs. Precautions should be taken when used around any pet small enough to enter or go completely inside the trap.

13. Is there a warranty on the Rodent Terminator?
The manufacturer warrants the unit from defects in material and workmanship for one year from the original date of purchase for the original purchaser.
