How to Select a Hose Reel

Reels can help eliminate unsafe and cluttered work
areas, as well as protect the hose and/or cable from
damage. They keep the hoses and cables off the floor
to help prevent people from tripping. Hose reels can
also save time by keeping the hose and cable untangled,
eliminating the need to roll them up by hand. Hoses
that are improperly stored and cared for can kink and
crack, causing leaks and loss in pressure, while cable
can become weakened or frayed.

| How
to Select a Hose Reel |
First, consider the application's pressure requirements. For
most pneumatic tools, you may only need a reel that handles
up to 300 psi, while a reel to transfer oil would need up
to 2000 psi. Grease and lubrication application would need
up to 4000 psi, while a simple water application would only
need up to 300 psi. Your application will also help determine
the ID (Inside Diameter) requirement for the hose and fittings
on the hose reel. Applications where more torque is needed
for larger pneumatic tools or heavy repairs, larger ID's may
be required. Once you have determined your application requirements,
consider the length of the hose needed based on the placement
of the hose reel in the work area. Keep in mind when choosing
the length of hose, the longer it is, the greater the possibility
of pressure loss. Gempler's has hand-selected the highest
quality industrial-grade reels that will stand up to daily
use. So, whether you're fixing a combine or welding a water
tank, your hose reel will get the job done time after time.

Hand Crank: The most affordable type of reel.
Hand crank hose reels are ideal for short length of
hose/cable or where the length of cable desired is too
long for a spring-driven hose reel. |
 |
Spring
Driven: The drive spring winds as the hose is
pulled from the hose reel, developing the power required
to retract the hose when it is no longer needed. |
 |
Motorized
Drive: Motors best used when the hose desired
is heavy or too long for spring drive hose reels and
to save time and energy that a hand crank hose reel
would require. Motors are available in either pneumatic,
electrical or hydraulic. |
