Product Information

solo® Standard Backpack Sprayers . . . our #1 selling sprayers

  • Disease control on animals
  • Weed, insect and disease control on plants
  • Spot spraying
  • Industrial vegetation control
  • No corroding of pump components

solo® backpack sprayers are designed so only chemical-resistant parts come in contact with the formula being sprayed. As a result, you'll have years of trouble-free spraying. Piston Pump sprayers allow a wider range of applications than diaphragm pump models. Not recommended for use with abrasive sprays or wettable powders because these substances can score the piston and cylinder of the pump, causing leaks and lowering the life span of the sprayer. Maximum pressure of 90 p.s.i. can be reached by replacing the pressure control valve with an optional plug. Tanks are made of high-density, UV-stabilized polyethylene with high-impact strength and excellent resistance to chemicals and stress. Nylon web straps are padded at the shoulders. Pump handle is adjustable for left- or right-hand operation. Supplied with two spray nozzles which provide three different spray patterns. Flat spray nozzle is recommended for general area spraying. For spot spraying, the conical nozzle provides a cone-shaped spray when used with the swirl plate and a pin-stream spray without the swirl plate. Large 4" opening with strainer allows fast and safe fillings. Features a handy interlock device for continuous spraying. 4 gallon sprayer. Weighs 11 lbs. empty. USA made.

Comments about Solo Backpack Sprayer -- 4-gal. Piston Pump:

I bought this sparayer to replace my SP-2 that had a cracked tank. The SP models seem to be getting hard to come by so I tried this Solo model. It has good ratings but I am dissapointed it it's construction. No folding handle, straps are too narrow and lack sufficiant padding, filler cap is small and has no handle for lifting up the backpack, the wand is plastic as are the nozzels and the frame isn't heavy duty. I would only recomend this unit if it wasn't to be used often.

Comments about Solo Backpack Sprayer -- 4-gal. Piston Pump:

This is a must have tool for fighting lawn weeds such as bermuda weed requiring a complex herbicide mixture. The tank is well constructed and I have used it for two seasons with no deterioration in its performance. I do clean it after each application of a cocktail consisting of Turflon Ester, Acclaim and a sufactant (Dawn detergent). Cleaning is done by first washing out the tank with fresh water and then pumping about 2 gals of fresh water throughout the system.

Two suggestions for SOLO: The straps used to hold the tank on one's back are not very secure and prone to detaching from the lower frame while mounting to ones back. Straps should be redesigned by SOLO. Most of the herbicides I use have mixing directions based on oz/1000 sq feet. It would be useful to know how many sq feet (on avg pressure) a 4 gal tank would cover.

Comments about Solo Backpack Sprayer -- 4-gal. Piston Pump:

I bought this a month ago used 1 tank, brought out today to use for 3 1/2 tank fulls and had the snap break on one strap and the adjustment buckle break on the other strap. I was very diappointed as the one it replaced that I garage saled when I moved never gave me any trouble, I used it for many years.

We get a lot of use out of these before we have to rebuild it. (easy to rebuild under 15 minutes)Should be cleaned if you let it set for any length of time.Might suggest replacing the plastic spray tip with a brass one.
