If you plan to use this product at the depth for which it is intended, don't expect it to hold together. Mine did for maybe 4 readings. Then I could not pull it back out of the ground. When I finally did, the head separated from the probe (still stuck in the ground). Not good for the soil variations of the Northeast.

Using this to measure soil temps at various depths in Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas to get an idea of effect of prolonged period of 100 degree plus days on soil temps. Example: 11:30 pm, Norman Oklahoma, soil temp at max depth was 93.3 degrees. If your soil is hard, rocky etc. it is best to use a long nail, gutter spike etc to open a small pilot hole, then wiggle the thermo in.
