The first one had screw holes that didn't align so that the blade was secured only by 2 screws. The replacement did align. Gempler's staff responded quickly and were very helpful.

After one use rubber grip was so thin it's already ripping off the top but they knew I'd have electrical tape. Made in China.

[...]. Difficult to use. Useless against maple or other hardwoods with roots larger than a finger. Frankly a good ax does a better job. Buy a good ax and keep it sharp -its easier to use than this invention.

Having to often clear roots to make beds or excavate to install pavers I thought I'd found a shortcut. The tool came rusted, with chipped paint, missing major screw and a slightly rusted blade. Even after sharpening it by hand, it is still faster to cut roots with a good lopper, axe or even a sawzall than to waste time on money on this tool that will sit in my shed until I die. it's a shame because it is a good idea, but it needs better excecution, perhaps with replacable, sharper blades.
