Product Information

Keep blue herons from eating the fish out of your pond

  • Deters other blue herons from approaching your pond
  • Blue heron decoy has realistic tail

Great blue herons are very large birds that can eat a small pond of fish in a matter of days. This great blue heron decoy is a convenient way to repel herons and keep your fish safe. Blue herons are territorial by nature and aggressively defend their area. Incoming herons will see the decoy and avoid eating at your pond to keep away from conflict. Tough, plastic decoy has realistic detail and resists fading, chipping, dents and cracks. Measures 30"Lx11-1/4"Wx9-1/2"H and includes a 23"L metal stake. Move decoy frequently to increase effectiveness and use along with other deterrent methods. Imported.
NOTE: Decoy should not be used during the early spring mating period.

Comments about Great Blue Heron Decoy:

Not so much a review as a few tips after reading some of the comments. Herons respect each others territories which is why these decoys work. Most folkls don't research how to use them. For starters, Heron mating season is from early March to late May. During this time the decoy can actually ATTRACT other Herons looking for a mate. You should not use your decoy during this period. The rest of the year you need to move it around a lot. Herons are very smart birds so you need to put some effort into fooling them. Keep it in one place and they will figure it out sooner or later. Place the decoy near the ponds edge or in the water if possible. Alternate between these locations. Happy ponding!

This was a Christmas gift and they liked it but now we will see if it works in their pond.

Put it by the pond and the other birds stayaway

Was too good to be true...

Comments about Great Blue Heron Decoy:

I lost all of my pond fish to a GBH visitor so I was told to buy a decoy. I bought the decoy and some new fish for my pond. All fish were gone within 24 hours - decoy was not effective in detering these hungry birds. The decoy did not work. I hope you all have better luck than I did. Back to the ugly nets :(
On a better note, the decoy was well constructed and realistic. I am keeping it for decoration as it does look good!

Comments about Great Blue Heron Decoy:

The blue heron decoy looks fairly realistic but does not work as a heron deterrent. The day after I placed it next to my pond, a great blue heron landed not more than 10 feet from the decoy. It makes a great garden ornament, but apparently doesn't effectively deter herons.
