I lost all of my pond fish to a GBH visitor so I was told to buy a decoy. I bought the decoy and some new fish for my pond. All fish were gone within 24 hours - decoy was not effective in detering these hungry birds. The decoy did not work. I hope you all have better luck than I did. Back to the ugly nets :(
On a better note, the decoy was well constructed and realistic. I am keeping it for decoration as it does look good!

The blue heron decoy looks fairly realistic but does not work as a heron deterrent. The day after I placed it next to my pond, a great blue heron landed not more than 10 feet from the decoy. It makes a great garden ornament, but apparently doesn't effectively deter herons.

I researched ways to keep my koi in my pond safe. The research indicated that a blue heron decoy was an effective way, but also indicated that there were some specific features (such as the gold color of the eyes) that were important. I looked on line at a number of outlets, but was most impressed by the blue heron I found at Gempler's. The decoy arrived very quickly, and was just what I wanted. I couldn't have been more pleased. Now I have to see if it keeps the live blue herons away.

MY GREAT BLUE HERON DECOY IS VERY REALISTIC AND SO FAR I'VE HAD NO GBH'S TO VISIT. I FEEL LIKE IT MAY BE THE ANSWER TO KEEPING MY FISH SAFE. IT'S EASILY MOVED TO DIFFERENT LOCATIONS AROUND MY POND. I REALLY LIKE IT AND RECOMMEND ONE TO ANYONE WITH A FISH POND. IT'S WORTH A TRY!

I thought it was a joke, when a friend told me that I needed a Great Blue Herron Decoy. I keep losing my expensive Koi to a wild one that came around often and ate my best fish. I had resorted to putting an ugly black net over my pond to protect my fish. Not real attractive for a beautiful fish pond. The Decoy works, now no net and a nice view out my window at the pond lillies and Koi.
