A fruit hardness tester, also known as a fruit penetrometer, is used to determine the ideal harvest and shipping times for many different types of fruits. Fruit firmness is the universally accepted measure of ripeness, and this unit measures the force required to push a plunger tip into the pulp of large, hard fruits.
