Comments about DB Smith Field King Backpack Sprayer (4 gal.):

I applaud DB Smith for attempting to make an economical backpack sprayer with an agitating tank. However, poor quality and an awkward delivery system make this a poor spray tank.

          Pros:
Tank agitates with each pump of handle.
Price is almost half that of comparable sprayers.
Nicely placed hip strap makes using the sprayer easier.
Pump handle can change sides for left-handed or right-handed use.
          Cons:
Pump handle comes off while spraying whether you want to change sides or not.
          Manufacturers nozzle is poor quality.
          Spray wand leaks.
Proprietary spray wand size means that parts, nozzles, etc, are not interchangeable with other manufacturers.
Tank design is such that you can't spray out the last inch or so from the tank. So you end up with a significant amount of chemical leftover in each tank full.
Shoulder straps are thin and uncomfortable, especially with a full tank.

Comments about DB Smith Field King Backpack Sprayer (4 gal.):

I have owned a weed abatement company for 12+ years. I have just about every size and type of herbicide sprayer imaginable. The Field King backpack sprayer is the only piece of equipment that has never failed me!I have two of them. I rarely (never) follow the recommended maintenance...the things get abused. Herbicides are almost always left in the tank for the next job (bad I know). No leaks, seal failures, pressure loss...nothing. Just keep on spraying!

The best sprayer for your money

Comments about DB Smith Field King Backpack Sprayer (4 gal.):

This is by far the best sprayer for low-mid pressure spray jobs. It may look cheap compared to the other backpacks (which it is), but you are much better off buying 2 or 3 of these versus one expensive "well made" sprayer. All the other sprayers are built better, but are not easy to use at all. First off, why the hell do all other makers of sprayers make it so easy for the backpack to tip over when if is simply sitting on the ground? Expensive sprayers are also much more uncomfortable to wear, harder to fill(tank caps, etc), their nozzles dont spray as well, very uncomfortable to pump. Basically everything about the DB Smith sprayer is better than higher priced competitors. The only trade off is the longevity of the unit. Don't get me wrong, each backpack gets me about 250-300 full 4 gal tank uses, so I'm not saying it is a "use a couple times and throw away" product. I'm not sure how that compares to other sprayers, because I couldn't handle the hassle of using them nearly that much. So what's the point of paying more if you can't stand to use it anyway. Take my advice and stick with DB, he'll treat you right. Just make sure to keep dust out of the trigger(thats what makes it stick), and lube the o ring on the pressure reservoir inside the tank when you start losing pressure. That will keep performance up for a long time.
