During the past two or so years I have purchased about 30 of these mats and was very happy. Unhappily this last order of 12 was clearly very different from what I had in my garden.

The backing on this order was entirely different. Rather than the good quality perforated plastic backing firmly attached to the rubber, these mats were rolled up on the cheapest possible weed barrier fabric and not attached. The rubber in these mats was dry and the edges crumbled and the mats ripped apart with little to no effort.

We thought about returning the order, but the cost of shipping three heavy boxes was simply too much. Instead we threw away the flimsy backing and purchased better quality weed barrier fabric. Some of the mats torn apart but we put them where they were not visible and would not be walked on.

I won't buy any more of these mats.

This is thinner than I expected it to be, and the fabric backing was not attached to the rubber mat. When I laid the mat out to see how it looked, I took one edge with my fingers and pulled it to repostion it - and a piece 2 in X 2 in ripped off. With very little tug it ripped from the side. I will use it, but I will lay stone on either side and cover the mat with more rubber mulch. I dont have a lot of confidence it will last long as a walkway.

I have purchased the 2 ft round tree rings & those seem a bit thicker and more substantial than the 2 x 6 mats. But for the price I am pretty happy with them and intend to order another
10 or 12 mats to border the side of my home.

New design is much thinner than in previous years when purchased from this and another vendor. The rubber layer is too thin and flimsy. When I was putting it down, chunks of rubber came off in my hand leaving the black plastic exposed. I received product that had 2different plastic backings, neither of which was satisfactory. With one backing, it had 1 point of attachment only. The other was a shiny backing which made the entire mat slip around, forcing one to use staples. Many others commented on these issues with the product they recently received.

Wish I could find a source for the original 3/4 inch thick product with the cloth weed barrier backing. That product was heavy and durable.

Ripped out all my weed cloth ( did not work) and replaced it with this rubber mulch/ Better looking, and keeps the weeds out. Costly for what you get but worth it in the long run. this was my second order of this stuff. Easy to work with.
