Comments about Brush Grubber Tree Puller w/ Metal Handle:

I have owned this handled brush grubber for 2 years, since May 2009. I have two problems with it: First it tends to strip the bark and slip on trees under 1/2 inch. Second, when it does grab the tree, I had the black "lift leverage stand" (LLS) bend even without my full weight (160lb) on the handle. My first LLS bent in 2 weeks after about a dozen or so small trees. I tried it on a 1" tree, and the LLS bent badly. Gemplers quickly arranged for a free replacement LLS from the merchant. I didn't use it much till just recently. However, even being VERY careful, this LLS bent too. I wrote directly to the merchant, and they will try to find a replacement part for me. However their agent wrote: "Please note that the Brush Grubbers are designed for shallow rooted trees. Even small oak trees have a tap root and a more complex root system which can make them pretty tough to get out of the ground. Even in soft soil." This is not mentioned in their advertisement. These oaks were less than 1/2 inch in diameter, and the roots that came out in one piece were 10-12" long. When the LLS doesn't bend, and the teeth grab, it works well. I will call the 1 800-874-4755 number and talk with their tech support to get the improved grabbing device. I am concerned about the one review from a person who had the handle bend.

Comments about Brush Grubber Tree Puller w/ Metal Handle:

In spite of the negative reviews, I bought one of these based on Gemplers assurance the problem had been fixed. After trying unsuccessfully on multiple sized saplings after 2 days of heavy rain, I finally pulled one up. Thinking I'd gotten the hang of it, I moved to the next one and the cable promptly pulled out of the clamp at the handle end. The cable clamps need to be stronger and a redesign that has a second cable that clamps the teeth shut on the sampling is needed. The closing spring is way too weak to hold the teeth on the trunk. If you could lock it closed, I think it would work ok. As is, it does not meet Gemplers standard for quality or usefulness.

      Pretend "heavy-duty"

Comments about Brush Grubber Tree Puller w/ Metal Handle:

Cable snapped from its' insertion point during a trial run on a sapling 1/2 the diameter of a pencil. Sick to death of disposible products especially those that pretend to be "heavy duty" or "durable."

Comments about Brush Grubber Tree Puller w/ Metal Handle:

It seems to be a good idea, but the teeth simply don't have enough force to actually grab the brush trunk. It's great for peeling the bark, but it won't extract the trunk/roots.
