I live and work on the pacific northwest coast where winter storms bring heavy rains, high cold winds, and mild springs bring light rains and that can last weeks on end without letup. I work 12-15 hr shifts spending a lot of time both in and out of my truck so versatile gear that is comfortable is what I want to wear.
I am very pleased with this jacket, its light weight and good fit allow layering so its really comfortable and versatile. It's tough, very wind resistant and dry. Bearing in mind I love this jacket and would buy another without reservation I'll say that the enormous removable hood needs a front to back adjustment mechanism. Without a billed ball cap it slides way down over my face. I was so amazed and annoyed by this I thought, " was this thing even field tested"? Carhartt really should address this as we wont always wear hoods and caps under our rain hoods. Cinching down the draw strings or closing the throat flaps fix it, but its a very annoying and unnecessary inconvenience.

i live in new england and i stand outside for a living...i have tried everything..this material,420 ripstop nylon, is the ticket...they make horse blankets and back packs out of this stuff...just wish it had "pit zips" (are you listening carhart?)

I also have the rain pants that match this coat. I use them mainly on my motorcycle can ride 60 in a down pore and not get wet. Zippers are sealed well and cuffs keep the rain from running up your sleeves when riding. The pants zip all the way down the leg so you can get them on and off with boots and they do not leak.
