Information

Create a cool, shaded environment for plants and animals with tan shade cloth

This knit high-density polyethylene tan shade cloth is both effective and low cost. A tan shade cloth reduces UV penetration and the chemical-resistant knit material has better strength, ventilation and water permeability than woven shade barriers. My wife and I show cars and attend 65+ events a year. We have a 8' pop up canopy we use to provide shade from the sun. We always chased a 8'x 8' square of shade around all day as the sun moved across the sky. I cut the shade cloth in 4" strips and clip it to the edge of the canopy to provide additional shade under the canopy. It lets any breeze come through but keeps us comfortable and away from the sun. We have people ask what the product is and where to get it and we direct them to Gemplers. I may try to find someone that can use the material and replace my original canopy top with this stuff. it's great!

I have a similar problem as another reviewer here.

We bought three pieces, sewed them together for a 16' X 35' shade over our steel shipping container which contains a library and storage room. It does keep the metal structure cool and is a very nice tan color. However, less than two years after installation, the white strands began to disintegrate, showering down on everything under it. And the specks are small and sticky and thus not so easy to get off of things. I feel sorry for anyone who may have used this material over plants, as there would be a real mess to clean up, after every rain.
I suppose the UV resistance of the white fibers is nil. I'll have to check with Gemplers to see if there's any kind of warranty.
I don't think you would want to install this where the sun shines!

Comments about Tan Shade Cloth 70% Shade Factor:

I use this shade cloth to cover a portion of my patio. It looks great and allows good air flow and shade cover. It starts disintegrating in the 2nd. year of use and makes a mess of white flakes. The flakes of hard to clean up. If the company comes out with a better replacement, I would like to be notified.

Comments about Tan Shade Cloth 70% Shade Factor:

[...] easy to cut and the plastic clamp on grommets are great. White strands knitted with white, brown knitted with brown sort of mini brown/white stripes - looked great. Halfway thru its second summer white flakes started showing up all over the deck. Putting it up for the 3rd summer it was obvious that the white was disintegrating. Now after 3rd summer the white is all gone - Had to be swept up off the deck like 20 pounds of white plastic snow. The brown is still up there and strong, but its 1/2 the shade. May still use it in the garden but the deck needs shade that doesn't flake out and fall apart.
