      Comments about Gerber Brush Thinner:

I tried to use this to clear shrub honeysuckle, autumn olive, and bittersweet, among other small brush. The tool is built well, sharp, heavy steel, is very comfortable to hold, nice to look at, etc. If you're chopping medium brush at chest height, it works pretty well, but if you're cutting and pulling at stuff above and below you, the hook just doesn't cut like it should. If you're to cut on the pull stroke, then the curve of the hook needs to be more acute and the blade inside the hook should be ground on just one side. If you're to cut on the swing, then either the angle to the handle is wrong or the handle is too long for getting low as when you're trying to cut a plant off at the base. Though more expensive, the "woodsman's pal" tool is far superior and is well worth the extra money.
