This sophisticated SkyScan lightning detector is commonly used by the military and major airlines. The Skyscan lightning detector is capable of detecting lightning strikes at an accuracy of 1/4 mile or less for strikes within 1 mile and an accuracy of 1 mile for strikes within a 40 mile range. This Skyscan lightning detector also has built-in software that indicates if interference is present from outside electronic sources. Each time SkyScan detects a lightning strike it emits an audible warning tone and lights the LED range on the detector. The distances are indicated in four ranges: 0-3 miles, 3-8 miles, 8-20 miles and 20-40 miles. When SkyScan detects lightning patterns of severe storms, it sounds a 15 second continuous Severe Thunderstorm Alarm tone.
